Five Tests After 35: Doctor Named the Key Ones

After the age of 35, it is necessary to monitor not only blood sugar and cholesterol levels but also thyroid function, the condition of the liver and kidneys, as well as vitamin D3 and B12 levels. This statement was made by Indian pathologist and clinical genomics specialist Shelly Mahajan in an interview with The Times of India.

As the expert explained, it is after the age of 35 that the body loses its ability to effectively compensate for the consequences of chronic stress, sleep deprivation, a sedentary lifestyle, and an unbalanced diet. Outwardly, a person may feel perfectly fine, but internally, hidden processes are already being triggered that can still be detected and brought under control at this stage.

The doctor placed a blood sugar level test at the top of the list of essential check-ups — it allows for timely detection of prediabetes or early carbohydrate metabolism disorders.

"The second important block is cardiovascular risk assessment: this includes measuring blood pressure and checking cholesterol levels, since it is after the age of 35 that the risk of heart attack and stroke gradually increases. It is also necessary to take tests that show the condition of the liver and kidneys. Disorders in these organs can remain hidden for a long time, so it is important to detect them before symptoms appear," the doctor warned.

The doctor paid special attention to checking thyroid function. She called this organ "the main thermostat of metabolism" and emphasized that disruptions in its function are often mistaken for ordinary fatigue, stress, or lack of energy, although over time they can deal a serious blow to one's health.

As the fifth mandatory point, Mahajan named testing for vitamin D3 and B12 levels. Their deficiency does not always lead to severe diseases, but it can noticeably worsen one's well-being, increase weakness, reduce productivity, and overall undermine quality of life.
