An unexpected sign of bowel cancer has been named

Persistent alternation between constipation and diarrhea may turn out to be not a simple digestive disorder, but rather an alarming sign of serious diseases, including colon cancer. Foreign specialists are drawing attention to this.

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to gastroenterologist Joseph Salhab, such symptoms are often associated with so-called "overflow diarrhea." This insidious condition occurs with severe constipation: dense fecal matter blocks the intestine, while only liquid contents seep out, mimicking ordinary diarrhea and misleading the patient.

However, according to the doctor, in some cases colon cancer may be hiding behind such disorders. A growing tumor partially blocks the intestinal lumen, preventing the normal movement of its contents, which triggers the characteristic alternation of constipation with episodes of loose stool.

The expert emphasized that accompanying symptoms should cause particular concern: abdominal pain, bloating, blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, anemia, or vomiting. When such signs appear, medical professionals strongly recommend undergoing examination without delay.

Specialists remind us: colon cancer in its early stages often masquerades as common gastrointestinal disorders. This is precisely why doctors regard prolonged and persistent changes in bowel function as a serious reason for comprehensive diagnostics.
