Hidden Threat: Electronic Cigarettes Explode in Users' Hands
Electronic cigarettes, which have gained popularity as a "safe" alternative to traditional smoking, hide a deadly danger. The absence of smoke, ash, and tobacco smell creates a deceptive impression of safety, but a little-known fact is that vapes can literally explode in the hands or even in the mouth of the user.
At the core of the problem are lithium-ion batteries, identical to those used in smartphones and laptops. The critical difference is that vapes often lack reliable safety systems. Overheating, improper charging, mechanical damage, or low-quality components can provoke thermal runaway, turning the device into a real mini-bomb.
Medical statistics record shocking cases where devices have detonated directly in users' mouths. The consequences are horrifying: knocked-out teeth, extensive facial burns, tongue injuries, and even jaw fractures. Some victims have ended up in intensive care with severe head injuries. Documentary evidence of such incidents, including photographs and medical reports, is publicly available.
The highest danger comes from powerful vapes that are self-modified or assembled from cheap components. The risk of explosion significantly increases when using non-original chargers, as well as when the battery is damaged or overheated.
Of particular concern is the prevalence of such devices among teenagers and young people who lack information about the proper handling of lithium-ion batteries. Carrying a vape together with metal objects - keys or coins - can cause a short circuit and explosion even when the device is inactive.
Manufacturers rarely acknowledge responsibility for such incidents. In most countries, vape safety regulation remains insufficient, and quality control is practically non-existent.
The conclusion is disappointing: despite their outward harmlessness and seeming safety, electronic cigarettes pose a real explosion hazard. Until strict industry controls are introduced, every vape user risks not only their health but also their life.
