Dentist Andrés Ramírez has warned about a common mistake made by millions of people after consuming sweets.
As reported by TUT.AZ citing Deia, the specialist stated that the habit of brushing teeth immediately after dessert can cause serious damage to enamel. The fact is that sugar, once in the oral cavity, rapidly turns into acid, which aggressively attacks the surface of the teeth.
According to the doctor, when brushing immediately, a person unknowingly rubs this acid directly into the enamel, triggering its demineralization and weakening. To prevent such consequences, Ramírez strongly recommends waiting at least 30 minutes before reaching for a toothbrush.
In addition, the expert urges people to abandon the habit of stretching out sweet consumption over a long period, snacking every 10–15 minutes. It is much safer to eat dessert in one sitting — this way the period of acid exposure on the teeth is significantly reduced, and the risk of enamel damage is lowered.
