A giant airplane-sized asteroid is heading toward Earth

An airplane-sized asteroid hurtled past Earth at a dizzying speed — NASA recorded the cosmic visitor.

This was reported by The Times of India, citing a statement from the U.S. space agency.

"On March 18, asteroid 2026 FB, comparable in size to an airplane, whizzed past Earth at a tremendous speed of 55,000 kilometers per hour," the publication's report states.

According to researchers, the cosmic object is approximately 21 meters wide. At its closest approach, the asteroid passed at a distance of about 1.1 million kilometers from our planet. Specialists noted that this is significantly farther than the Moon's orbit, which is located at an average distance of 385,000 kilometers from Earth.

The asteroid posed no threat to the planet. NASA experts explained that even if such an object were to enter Earth's atmosphere, it would most likely burn up completely and never reach the surface.
