Top 5 most beneficial nuts: walnut leads in omega-3 content, while almond is a true vitamin champion

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to "Gazeta.Ru," renowned gastroenterologist from the "Be Healthy" clinic on Sushchevsky Val, Mohamad Ali Almasri, presented a unique ranking of nuts, evaluating their benefits for the human body.

According to the medical expert, walnut confidently takes first place due to its record content of alpha-linolenic omega-3 acid (a whole 2.5 g in a small 28 g portion) and natural melatonin. This nut effectively fights cholesterol and reduces the level of "bad" lipoproteins.

The silver medalist in the ranking is almond, a true treasure trove of vitamin E, magnesium, and calcium. Regular consumption of almonds helps reduce visceral fat and maintains stable blood glucose levels.

Pistachios won bronze due to their highest protein content among nuts. Additionally, they contain lutein and zeaxanthin — substances that play an important role in maintaining vision and healthy intestinal microflora.

Hazelnut ranks fourth, rich in monounsaturated fats and manganese. This nut demonstrates pronounced antioxidant properties. Pine nuts complete the top five with their unique pinolenic acid, which enhances the feeling of satiety.

The ranking also notes: pecans with high polyphenol content, cashews — a valuable source of copper and iron, Brazil nuts, just a couple of kernels of which provide the daily requirement of selenium, and peanuts, rich in arginine, which has a beneficial effect on blood vessels.

Almasri emphasized that adults are recommended to consume 25-30 grams of nuts five to seven times a week, while 10-15 grams is sufficient for children aged 3-6 years.

"A handful of fresh nuts daily reduces the risk of heart attack and type 2 diabetes, helps control body weight, and improves the nutrition of intestinal microorganisms. The best combination is walnuts, almonds, and pistachios, purchased in small batches and stored in a cool place. If a nut has gone rancid, throw it away without regret," the specialist concluded.
