Apple is preparing a revolutionary memory update for iPhone 18 - RAM capacity may increase by 50%. This is reported by MacRumors, citing the South Korean publication Bell.
In the current iPhone 17 lineup, the iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max models are already equipped with 12 GB of RAM, which is 4 GB more than the previous generation. This increase is related to the growing data processing needs for artificial intelligence features. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 17 remains the only representative of the new generation with 8 GB of RAM.
According to The Bell, the Cupertino company plans to standardize the specifications of all iPhone 18 models, completely abandoning versions with 8 GB of memory. Apple has already sent a request to Samsung to increase the supply of LPDDR5X chips, which are only produced in 12 and 16 GB configurations. Simultaneously, negotiations are underway with SK Hynix and Micron to ensure sufficient supply of mobile DRAM.
According to unconfirmed data, in the fall of 2026, the public will be introduced to the iPhone Air 2, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the long-awaited foldable iPhone Fold. The base iPhone 18 model and the budget iPhone 18e are expected to be released later - in the first half of 2027.
