Trump seriously intends to annex Canada and Greenland to the USA

US President Donald Trump, in an interview with Time magazine, firmly confirmed his intentions to annex Canada and Greenland to the territory of the United States. "Actually, I'm not joking," said the head of the White House, dispelling the journalist's doubts about the seriousness of his previous statements on this issue, reports TUT.AZ.

Trump described Canada as an "interesting case," emphasizing that the US loses a colossal sum of $200 to $250 billion annually by supporting its northern neighbor. "We take care of their military sphere, all aspects of their lives...", the president noted. According to his conviction, the only reasonable justification for Washington to continue such large-scale support for Canada would be for this country to become part of the United States.

Speaking about Greenland, Trump emphasized that the island's annexation to America would provide its residents with significant economic advantages. For the United States itself, Greenland is of key strategic importance in the context of ensuring national security. The American leader also frankly acknowledged his desire to go down in history as the president who expanded US territory.

Notably, Trump has made such statements before. Previously, he repeatedly claimed that many Canadians supposedly support the idea of their country joining the United States as the 51st state. According to the president, such a step would guarantee Canada economic stability and reliable protection from external threats, especially from Russia and China. However, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney firmly rejected the possibility of unifying the two states in any form.

A similar situation developed with Greenland, when Trump previously put forward a proposal to "buy" this autonomous territory of Denmark. This initiative was also categorically rejected by both Danish and Greenlandic authorities. It is worth noting that back in 1951, the US and Denmark signed a Treaty on the Protection of Greenland, according to which Washington took on the obligation to defend the island from possible aggression. The American space base Thule (Pituffik) also operates on Greenland's territory, playing a strategic role in the missile attack warning system and control over the Arctic zone.
