Head of police at Nizhny Novgorod airport detained for organizing illegal migration scheme

As reported by RBC, citing the transport police of the Volga Federal District, as a result of a joint operation, police officers and the FSB of Russia detained the head of the police unit at the Nizhny Novgorod airport.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the suspect systematically helped foreign citizens avoid administrative liability for violations of migration legislation. To implement his plans, he involved other airport police officers and a number of accomplices in the illegal activities.

"If guilt is confirmed, the employees will be dismissed from the internal affairs bodies on negative grounds, and all detained citizens will be punished in accordance with the procedure established by law," the official statement of the transport police emphasizes.

According to the publication "Nizhny. Now", the person in question is Lieutenant Colonel Namig Musaev, who, according to the investigation, organized an entire channel of illegal migration. A source in law enforcement claims that migrants entered Russia through this channel for monetary rewards.

The preliminary investigation showed that about 12 police officers may have been involved in the criminal scheme. It is also noted that Musaev maintained close ties with the Azerbaijani diaspora in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

It is worth noting that back in June, the Investigative Department of Transport of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported the detention of a group of Nizhny Novgorod residents and local police officers in a similar case. According to the investigation, from 2024 to 2025, an organized group operated at the airport that identified violators of migration legislation among passengers and, for bribes, allowed them to leave Russia without being held accountable.

The detainees have been charged under Articles 322.1 of the Criminal Code (organization of illegal migration) and 286 of the Criminal Code (abuse of official powers).
