Vadim Medvedev – the last member of the Politburo of the CPSU Central Committee – has passed away
As TUT.AZ reports, this is "according to RIA Novosti"
A prominent Soviet political figure has died at the age of 97. Vadim Medvedev was 96 years old.
Medvedev held key positions in the leadership of the Soviet Union during the perestroika period. From 1986 to 1990, he served as Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee, and from 1988 to 1990, he was a member of the Politburo. After the collapse of the USSR, Medvedev continued his state activities, becoming a member of the Presidential Council and an advisor to Mikhail Gorbachev, the first and only president of the USSR.
The CPSU Central Committee (Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union) was the highest party body between CPSU congresses. It directed the activities of the party and, essentially, the entire Soviet Union, as the CPSU was the ruling party.
