Destructive natural disaster paralyzes northern Texas: tens of thousands of residents remain without power

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to The Washington Post (WP), the northern regions of Texas have been hit by a powerful natural disaster that caused large-scale infrastructure destruction.

Hurricane-force winds raging at speeds of up to 35 meters per second tore down dozens of power lines and caused enormous damage to urban facilities. Official sources report more than 200 registered cases of damage in the northern part of the state caused by the fury of the elements.

By Monday morning, the situation had not normalized – about 90,000 residents still remain without electricity. Meteorologists warn that the bad weather may plague Texas all week. The threat of destructive hurricanes also looms over neighboring states – Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee are in the danger zone. The unfavorable forecast with strong winds and hail also extends to eastern Kentucky, West Virginia, western Maryland, eastern Ohio, and southwestern New York.

Texas emergency services have been put on full alert in anticipation of possible flooding after heavy rains. The publication emphasizes an alarming fact: since the beginning of the year, Texas leads among all US states in the number of recorded hurricanes and tornadoes. Specialists attribute this anomaly to the unusually high water temperature in the Gulf of Mexico.
