Tragedy in Ahmedabad: Death Toll from Plane Crash Rises to 110 People
Indian media report a terrible tragedy - at least 110 people died in a passenger airliner crash near Ahmedabad airport. Earlier reports mentioned 40 casualties, but the sad statistics continue to grow.
An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed just a minute after takeoff, going down in a residential area of the city. There were 242 passengers and crew members on board. The plane was operating a flight to London.
The situation is complicated by the fact that the airliner fell on a densely populated residential area, which may lead to an increase in casualties among local residents. Shocking footage from the scene is spreading in the media, showing plane debris on rooftops and among destroyed houses.
According to available information, among the passengers of the fatal flight were 169 citizens of India, 53 British subjects, seven citizens of Portugal, and one citizen of Canada.
