The consequences of excessive black tea consumption have been revealed

May 21 is celebrated as International Tea Day - an aromatic beverage with a rich history and healing properties

Therapist Yana Shmeleva, in an interview with the publication "Moscow Region Today," drew attention to the importance of a sensible approach to consuming even such a traditionally beneficial drink as tea.

Black tea is a real treasure trove of beneficial substances: B vitamins, amino acids, carotene, magnesium, zinc, and iron. Although some vitamin C is lost during processing, the beverage retains the ability to activate brain function, relieve muscle spasms, and positively affect kidney function, notes Shmeleva.

However, excessive tea consumption can lead to health problems. The fluoride it contains can negatively impact bone tissue and tooth enamel in large quantities, while caffeine can cause excessive excitement and disrupt sleep, especially in people with neuroses. For those with anemia, tea makes it difficult for the body to absorb iron, and cold tea can cause kidney stones. During periods of elevated body temperature, hot tea is contraindicated as it intensifies fever.

The specialist also warns about the danger of consuming day-old tea due to the risk of bacterial growth. It is not recommended to wash down medications with tea, especially multivitamins, as this creates additional strain on the kidneys. The optimal option is weak tea with added milk or honey, which helps mitigate the effects of caffeine on the body.
