Left Party deputy expelled from Bundestag for black beret: scandal in German parliament
An incident involving headwear has stirred up the German parliament. 33-year-old Marcel Bauer, a representative of Germany's Left Party, was expelled from the Bundestag chamber after categorically refusing to remove his black beret. This was reported by the publication Bild.
The conflict erupted when the 53-year-old vice-chairwoman of the Bundestag, Andrea Lindholz, expressed clear dissatisfaction with the politician's appearance. After demanding he immediately remove the headwear and his subsequent refusal, she ordered the deputy to be removed from the plenary session. It's worth noting that the Bundestag enforces a strict dress code, according to which wearing headgear is permitted exclusively for religious reasons or when there are medical indications.
The situation took on a political tone when Bauer's departure was accompanied by loud applause from deputies of the conservative "CDU/CSU" bloc (Christian Democratic Union/Christian Socialist Union).
