Research: All Living Creatures Glow

Scientists have discovered: all living organisms glow! Canadian researchers have recorded mysterious luminescence from bacteria to humans. The phenomenon of ultra-weak photon emission (UPE) could revolutionize medicine and biology. The research results are published in the prestigious scientific journal Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters (JPCL).

The mysterious photon radiation occurs in the range from 200 to 1000 nanometers, but it is so weak – a thousand times less intense than bioluminescence – that the human eye cannot notice it. Scientists have found that the source of this invisible glow is reactive oxygen species (ROS) that arise during cellular metabolism. Notably, during stressful situations, the brightness of this radiation increases significantly.

During experiments using ultra-sensitive equipment in special darkened laboratories, researchers conducted a comparative analysis of the glow of living mice and those that had recently died. The results were striking: living creatures demonstrated a distinct glow, which almost completely disappeared after death.

Plants also became the object of scientific interest. When they were subjected to thermal exposure, mechanical damage, or chemical irritants, the intensity of the glow increased markedly, especially in the injured areas of the leaves.

These amazing discoveries open up broad application prospects: from determining the viability of tissues during transplantation to early diagnosis of stress conditions in agricultural plants and evaluating the effectiveness of medicinal drugs.
