Teslas Home Robot: Optimus Now Cooks, Cleans, and Even Goes to Mars!

Tesla Optimus robots are mastering household chores: from cleaning to cooking

Impressive dance moves and acrobatic tricks of humanoid robots certainly capture public attention, demonstrating technical perfection, however they offer almost no practical benefit. Against this background, Tesla's initiative to train their robots Optimus to perform household work looks significantly more promising and oriented toward real needs.

Recently on the social network X, company representatives published video materials under the intriguing headline "I don't actually just dance all day", where they demonstrated the capabilities of humanoid robots Optimus in performing household chores, including:

cleaning using a dustpan, brush, and vacuum cleaner,

collecting garbage,

dusting surfaces.

Special attention was drawn to the episode where the robot was spotted at a gas stove, confidently stirring ingredients in a pot with a cooking spatula. This demonstration clearly shows the preparation of Optimus for future application as a full-fledged household assistant.

The head of the development team for Optimus, Milan Kovac, in his message on the social network X revealed that his team aims to use videos from open sources to teach robots certain operations. In fact, neural networks can learn from videos, although currently their capabilities are limited to materials shot from a first-person perspective. This approach significantly accelerates the learning process, since previously it required involving operators with cameras and sensors, after whom the robot manually repeated movements.

The next stage of development involves implementing reinforcement learning, in which robots master skills through trial and error. To implement this approach, the use of virtual simulations is planned, which will accelerate learning without the need for a large number of physical robots.
