Revolutionary discovery: simple water can protect against stroke, American scientists claim

American researchers have made a breakthrough in stroke prevention. According to their study, published in the prestigious Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases, ordinary drinking water can become a powerful means of protection against this dangerous disease.

During a large-scale analysis of data from more than 29 thousand participants in the NHANES national survey, collected over a twenty-year period from 1999 to 2020, scientists discovered a surprising pattern.

The study revealed a clear L-shaped relationship between the amount of water consumed and the likelihood of developing a stroke. The greatest protective effect was observed in people who drink up to 1.4 liters of water daily. Interestingly, after this threshold value, additional protection practically did not increase. At the same time, participants who consumed insufficient amounts of water demonstrated a significantly increased risk of stroke.

It is especially important that the discovered pattern remained unchanged even after accounting for many other risk factors - age, weight, presence of diabetes, blood pressure indicators, cholesterol levels, and other parameters.

Scientists have revealed the mechanism of water's protective action: adequate fluid intake significantly improves blood circulation, suppresses inflammatory processes, and reduces the likelihood of blood clots - key factors that provoke stroke. The researchers emphasize that excessive water consumption does not enhance the protective effect.

The authors of the study strongly recommend including a proper drinking regimen in the complex of preventive measures against stroke and plan to continue research, extending it to other population groups.
