Scientists have revealed the secret of weight control: meal timing is crucial. The sensational discovery by specialists from the Barcelona Institute for Global Health has been published in the prestigious scientific journal International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity (IJBNPA).
The impressive large-scale study covered over seven thousand adult volunteers aged 40 to 65 years. In 2018, participants provided detailed information about their diet, lifestyle, meal schedule, and physical parameters. Five years later, more than three thousand of them underwent examination again, allowing scientists to track long-term changes.
The obtained data proved extremely interesting: people who prefer an early breakfast and maintain a significant interval between dinner and sleep typically demonstrated a lower body mass index.
"This phenomenon may be explained by the fact that eating early in the day better aligns with the body's circadian rhythms. Such a regimen promotes more efficient calorie burning and appetite regulation, potentially helping to maintain a healthy weight. However, it's premature to draw final conclusions, so specific recommendations will only be formulated after obtaining more convincing evidence," commented Luciana Pons-Muzzo, one of the leading authors of the study.
