Doctors warn: winter skin itching may signal pancreatic cancer
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to The Sun, specialists are drawing attention to the alarming connection between skin itching and a dangerous oncological disease.
According to the published data, skin itching in pancreatic cancer occurs due to the accumulation of bile salts in the bloodstream. This happens when a tumor blocks the bile ducts, leading to the development of jaundice.
In his comment to the publication, Dr. Neville Manezes particularly emphasized: if skin itching persists for more than a month, this is a serious reason to see a doctor.
Pancreatic cancer is not called a "silent killer" for nothing — in the early stages, the disease shows almost no symptoms, which significantly complicates early diagnosis. The statistics are discouraging: only about seven percent of patients survive the five-year mark after diagnosis.
Doctors also note other alarming symptoms of this disease: constant pain in the upper abdomen and back, yellowing of the skin, unexplained weight loss, development of diabetes and digestive disorders.
