CAUTION: MULBERRY ON AN EMPTY STOMACH CAN BE DANGEROUS FOR HEALTH
Mulberry, despite its abundance of beneficial substances, can pose a serious danger when consumed on an empty stomach, international experts warn. As general practitioner Elena Pavlova stated in an interview with a well-known publication, improper consumption of this berry can provoke digestive disorders and even cause symptoms of poisoning.
"Mulberry is rich in vitamins B, C, K2, potassium, magnesium, iron, and antioxidants. This means that the berry supports the cardiovascular system, vision, and immunity. It improves digestion because it contains fiber. However, consuming mulberry in large quantities and on an empty stomach can be dangerous. When consumed on an empty stomach, it can cause digestive disorders and signs of poisoning, namely nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting," Pavlova explained.
According to research, mulberry has a low glycemic index, making it safe for people with diabetes. However, the expert particularly emphasized that children should be especially careful – they often eat berries directly from the tree without having breakfast, which can lead to serious health consequences. Additionally, the specialist noted the environmental aspect of the problem: it is extremely dangerous to collect mulberries near roads, where heavy metals accumulate in the fruits.
"Mulberry has a low glycemic index, so it can be consumed by people with diabetes. However, children may eat mulberry on an empty stomach, just waking up and immediately climbing the tree. This is very negative for their digestion. It is also important to pay attention to where the tree is located, as if it's near roads, heavy metals can accumulate in the berry. Overall, mulberry is a beneficial berry, but excessive consumption can negatively affect health," Pavlova concluded.
