Pilot of the crashed Air India airliner sent an SOS signal one minute after takeoff
According to Ani News agency, the captain of the Air India aircraft that crashed in India sent a distress signal just 60 seconds after lifting off from the runway. Air traffic controllers immediately attempted to contact the crew, but all efforts proved futile. Shortly after radio communication ceased, the plane crashed in a densely populated residential area.
The tragedy unfolded on June 12 during an international flight from Ahmedabad Airport (Gujarat state) to the capital of Great Britain. There were 242 passengers on board whose lives were endangered. The aircraft crashed in the Meganinagar area, located in close proximity to the air harbor. According to the preliminary version, the airliner caught a tall tree, which led to fatal consequences. Despite the dramatic situation, some passengers managed to survive — they were urgently transported to nearby hospitals.
Dramatic footage of the moment of the catastrophe has spread on the internet. The video shows the plane rapidly losing altitude, rushing in dangerous proximity to residential buildings, after which it collides with structures.
