Shocking results: first brain study after using ChatGPT revealed alarming changes

For the first time in history, scientists have studied the impact of an artificial intelligence chatbot on the human brain, and the results turned out to be extremely alarming, reports LADBible. Researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology discovered serious changes in the cognitive abilities of people who regularly use ChatGPT and similar systems.

During a large-scale experiment, 54 students were divided into three groups while completing essay writing tasks. The first group could freely use ChatGPT and other language models, the second used regular internet search, and the third worked completely independently. Brain activity of all participants was recorded using electroencephalography.

The results were disappointing: students who regularly used AI showed a significant decrease in cognitive activity. They demonstrated memory deterioration, difficulties in formulating their own thoughts, and clear signs of reduced mental workload. The degradation became especially noticeable after four months of constant use of large language models.

When researchers suggested that participants switch groups, it was discovered that students who transitioned from AI to independent work could not quickly restore their previous level of cognitive functions. Meanwhile, those who began using AI after working independently initially showed increased productivity, but then also faced its decline.

Experts emphasize: despite the obvious benefits of artificial intelligence as a tool, its excessive use can seriously undermine learning abilities and the development of critical thinking. This is especially important for educational institutions, where growing dependence on such technologies threatens a significant decrease in the quality of knowledge acquired.

In addition to cognitive aspects, the study also addressed the ecological side of the issue. It was found that each interaction with systems like ChatGPT requires significant energy consumption. For every 10-50 queries, about 50 ml of water is used for server cooling. Even adding extra words or formal phrases increases the volume of processed data and raises energy consumption.
