Deputy of the "Armenia" faction Arthur Sargsyan taken into custody by court decision
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to Armenian media, the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan made a decision to arrest the deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Arthur Sargsyan.
The day before, Sargsyan voluntarily arrived at the Investigative Committee (IC) of the RA immediately after the parliament granted the Prosecutor General's request to lift his parliamentary immunity. Notably, the deputy spent about 5 hours near the IC building waiting before he was officially detained.
According to the court decision, the parliamentarian will remain in custody for the next two months.
Earlier, the National Assembly approved the request to strip Sargsyan of immunity in connection with accusations of supporting the "Sacred Struggle" movement and gave permission for actions restricting his freedom. At the same time, Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan specifically emphasized that she was not insisting on the deputy's detention.
