Neural Network Pretended to Be a Live Radio Host for Six Months

An Australian radio station found itself at the center of a scandal after the shocking truth was revealed: for six months, not a live presenter but artificial intelligence had been working on air.

As reported by TUT.AZ, this is according to Independent.

Radio station CADA, broadcasting in Sydney and through the iHeartRadio app, secretly created a virtual host named Tee using artificial intelligence technology that mimics a human voice. Tee hosted the popular show "Weekdays" daily for four hours Monday through Friday. Notably, neither the radio station's website nor promotional materials contained any mention that Tee was a product of artificial intelligence rather than a real person.

"If your day looks a bit boring, let Tee and CADA be the energy and atmosphere that will lift your mood," reads the description of the show on the official page, which also features a photo of the alleged host.

The deception was uncovered thanks to the vigilance of Sydney writer Stephanie Coombs, who suspected something was amiss with the radio host's image.

Coombs noticed suspicious details: Tee had no last name or any biographical information, and some words in different broadcasts sounded with absolutely identical intonation.

Fayad Tome, head of the ARN media holding company which includes CADA, confirmed the use of artificial intelligence to create Tee's voice.

"No microphone, no studio, just code and vibes," he commented on the situation on social media.
