In China, more than 1,300 new cases of chikungunya fever have been identified

In Guangdong province in southern China, another 1387 new cases of chikungunya fever have been registered. The information was published on the official portal of the Wuhan city administration.

The largest number of infected people (1212 individuals) was found in the city of Foshan, which became the epicenter of the disease outbreak in early July. In Guangzhou province, doctors diagnosed 103 cases of infection with this dangerous fever.

According to official data, the total number of detected fever cases in the southern regions of China has already exceeded 8 thousand. The press service reports that intensive anti-epidemic measures have been introduced in the affected areas, aimed at destroying mosquitoes — the main carriers of the virus.

Kang Ming, Director of the Institute for Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, emphasized that the rapid spread of infection in Foshan was initially brought under control, and the latest preventive measures show even more encouraging results.
