Moscow City Court fined ex-Deputy Defense Minister Ivanov 100 million rubles in addition to 13 years in prison
The Moscow City Court has made a final decision on the high-profile case of former Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Timur Ivanov. In addition to 13 years of imprisonment in a general regime colony, the high-ranking official was assigned a colossal fine of 100 million rubles, TASS reports.
The severe sentence was supplemented by the confiscation of all previously arrested assets not only of Ivanov himself but also of his family members. The former deputy minister was also stripped of all state awards. The verdict was issued on Ivanov's first criminal case, related to large-scale embezzlement in the acquisition of two ferries for the Kerch crossing and the withdrawal of more than 3.9 billion rubles from the Intercommerce bank.
The convicted man's lawyers have already announced their intention to appeal the verdict in a higher court.
