SENSATION IN THE VATICAN: SCIENTISTS REVEALED THE SECRET OF AN ANCIENT MANUSCRIPT WITH AN UNKNOWN FRAGMENT OF THE BIBLE, HIDDEN UNDER THREE LAYERS OF TEXT. THE AGE OF THE UNIQUE FIND EXCEEDS 1500 YEARS.
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to the authoritative publication New Testament Studies, researchers have discovered a fragment of one of the oldest translations of the Gospels - the Old Syriac version, also known as the Peshitta. Before this historical discovery, only two manuscripts of this translation were available to the scientific community, and both were preserved only partially.
The find is especially valuable because it allows for a comparative analysis of the Syriac text with the canonical Greek version, particularly the interpretation of the 12th chapter of the Gospel of Matthew. Researchers note that the Syriac version contains significantly more detailed descriptions of some biblical events. For example, the episode about Jesus and his disciples passing through sown fields on the Sabbath is presented with a much greater number of details.
The unique manuscript dates back to the first half of the 6th century. Scientists emphasize that during that historical period, parchment was an extremely expensive material, which led to its repeated use: old texts were erased, and new records appeared in their place.
