Plant-based and minimally processed foods have been recognized as the best nutrition for maintaining a good mood.

This was reported in an interview with TUT.AZ by Oleg Medvedev, Head of the Department of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine of Lomonosov Moscow State University and Scientific Director of the "Healthy Nutrition" Research Center.

As the scientist noted, simple dietary approaches based on increasing the proportion of whole foods in the diet can become an important part of a mental health support strategy.

"Nutrition can be not just a background factor, but part of a strategy for the prevention and management of mental disorders. The most promising approaches are simple ones: more whole foods, fiber, legumes, vegetables, fruits, nuts, olive oil, fish, and less ultra-processed food. Prebiotics, probiotics, and psychobiotics can also be beneficial, but their effects depend on the individual characteristics of the microbiota and the baseline diet. A diet emphasizing plant-based and minimally processed foods is an accessible tool for supporting mood, stress resilience, and cognitive health. The future lies in personalized approaches," Medvedev explained.
