SENSATION IN SCIENCE: SWEDISH PROFESSOR DECLARES CONSCIOUSNESS IS IMMORTAL
Scientific circles are stirred by a revolutionary statement made by Professor Maria Stremme of Uppsala University. The Swedish scientist has put forward a bold hypothesis that human consciousness is not a product of the brain and does not disappear after death, but returns to a kind of universal "background field".
According to TUT.AZ, in her resonant interview with the Daily Mail, Professor Stremme presented a radically new view on the nature of consciousness. The researcher claims that traditional notions about the connection between consciousness and the brain are overly limited. Instead, she suggests viewing our individual "self" as merely a temporary manifestation of a deeper level of reality.
"It's like a wave on the surface of the ocean," the scientist explains. "The wave may disappear, but the water that created it doesn't go anywhere."
Such an approach, notes Professor Stremme, opens new horizons for understanding near-death experiences. People who are between life and death, with weakened brain activity, may gain access to this "basic field." In such states, phenomena traditionally attributed to the realm of mysticism become possible: visions, premonitions, and images of events perceived as future.
According to the researcher, in critical moments people report striking images - bright light, tunnels, winged beings, gardens, black holes, and sometimes meetings with deceased relatives. These motifs regularly repeat in testimonies of people who have experienced clinical death.
"If consciousness is indeed part of a larger field, then such experiences cannot be explained by neural activity alone," believes Stremme, emphasizing that further scientific research is needed for definitive conclusions.
