AI Could Take On a Life of Its Own: Expert Warning

Alexandre Guerreiro, an expert from Portugal affiliated with the International Fact-Checking Association, warned in an interview with TASS that artificial intelligence is capable of "taking on a life of its own" if humanity does not take control of it in time.

"Artificial intelligence can become a true boon for humanity — but only if it is used responsibly and competently. Without proper regulation and attempts to establish full control over it, it risks starting to 'live a life of its own,'" Guerreiro stated.

According to his observations, AI is already exerting an enormous influence on people's everyday behavior: millions of users turn to Grok or ChatGPT for advice — from choosing what to have for dinner to movie recommendations. Moreover, as the expert emphasized, artificial intelligence is trusted even in academic circles and legal practice.

Guerreiro also drew attention to the fact that without sufficient understanding and control, AI is capable of substituting reality and misleading people.

Earlier, on April 24, Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas expressed the opinion that high user loyalty allows Apple to be in no rush to update its Siri voice assistant, despite the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies.

According to him, iPhones are not under pressure from AI but, on the contrary, can only benefit from its development.
