Two drinks that are dangerous to consume in hot weather: named by doctors

Doctors have sounded the alarm: popular beverages in the heat can become a real threat to health.

As reported by TUT.AZ citing foreign press, at the height of summer heat, habitual coffee and sugary drinks can accelerate dehydration and increase the risk of developing hypertension. Specialists shared this information with the publication Takeout.

According to medical professionals, caffeine has a diuretic effect — albeit a moderate one, but in conditions of extreme heat it leads to accelerated fluid loss. The result can be overheating of the body, heatstroke, fainting, and even seizures.

In addition, experts strongly recommend reducing the consumption of alcohol, as well as beverages with high sugar and sodium content — including sports and energy drinks. American specialists emphasize: alcohol additionally promotes fluid excretion, while excess sugar and salt force the body to expend water to process them, which only exacerbates dehydration. Ultimately, all of this can cause spikes in blood pressure and other serious health consequences.

Doctors unanimously call plain drinking water the safest choice in the heat. At the same time, as experts note, the temperature of the beverage does not play a fundamental role — the body brings it to its internal temperature in any case. The main advice from medical professionals: drink water regularly, without waiting for the moment when thirst becomes unbearable.
