Research: Diet Drinks Increase Diabetes Risk by 129%

Shocking discovery: diet drinks may increase the risk of diabetes instead of helping with weight loss. A new study presented at the prestigious scientific forum NUTRITION 2025 overturns the notion about the benefits of "diet" alternatives to sweet drinks. The sensational results have already been published in the authoritative journal Current Developments in Nutrition.

Researchers turned to the impressive database of the CARDIA project on studying coronary artery risk in young adults, which has been conducted since 1985. The large-scale study covered 4,654 volunteers, among whom women predominated – almost 55% of participants. The average age of those observed at the start of the project was only 25 years.

The results of the analysis shocked the scientific community: lovers of diet drinks who regularly consume them in significant quantities faced an increase in the probability of developing diabetes by a staggering 129% compared to those who practically excluded such drinks from their diet.

Particularly alarming data was obtained regarding specific sweeteners. Participants who consumed the maximum amount of saccharin showed an increase in diabetes risk by 110% compared to the group with minimal consumption of this artificial sweetener.
