Nutritionist debunked a popular myth about the classic summer salad

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to Lenta.ru, renowned nutritionist Alexander Burlakov presented a scientific refutation of a widespread culinary misconception that has misled healthy eating enthusiasts for years.

In his Telegram channel, the expert categorically disproved the myth that tomatoes and cucumbers in one dish supposedly neutralize each other's beneficial properties. "Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) can be partially destroyed in the presence of ascorbinase (an enzyme in cucumbers), but this is insignificant and has no clinical significance within the context of the entire diet," the specialist explained in detail, debunking the long-standing misconception.

The nutritionist particularly emphasized that the combination of tomatoes and cucumbers in a salad remains a valuable source of antioxidants, fiber, potassium, and other important phytonutrients.
