Japanese scientists have discovered: an aromatic compound from fruits can defeat resistant cancer cells. The study, published in the prestigious British Journal of Cancer, opens new perspectives in oncology.
Cancer cells possess an insidious ability to transform, converting from less mobile epithelial cells into active mesenchymal forms. This allows them to spread throughout the body and resist treatment. A research group led by Dr. Hideyuki Sai from Fujita University made a breakthrough, discovering that benzaldehyde – a substance that gives almonds, apricots, and figs their characteristic aroma – can block this dangerous process.
