Doctors warn: coffee and energy drinks in hot weather can worsen dehydration. Therapist Alina Kirichenko told Life.ru about the risks of consuming these beverages on hot days.
"Caffeine has a diuretic effect, intensifying diuresis and contributing to more intensive fluid excretion. It also constricts blood vessels and increases blood pressure, making thermoregulation more difficult," she noted.
Carbonated drinks, the doctor added, contain phosphoric acid and other components that can irritate the stomach lining and increase the load on the kidneys. During high air temperatures, the kidneys are already working under increased stress, trying to retain water in the body.
In summer, the doctor added, it's best to drink cold green tea with mint and lemon, water with berries, or homemade kvass.
