Meteorologists are sounding the alarm: the current El Niño, which originated in the tropical part of the Pacific Ocean, threatens to break all records. Weather anomalies caused by this climate phenomenon are already making themselves felt on different continents.

As reported by TUT.AZ, this is written by Agence France-Presse (AFP).

"We have never had a forecast like this for El Niño that would be confirmed by various forecasting models," said Tim Stockdale, a researcher at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts.

Forecasting models point to an "extreme event," the expert emphasized. According to him, in three decades of work, he has not observed anything that could be compared to the current El Niño.

El Niño originates in the central and eastern parts of the Pacific Ocean once every few years and lasts up to a year, triggering weather changes across the entire globe. The World Meteorological Organization linked the record heat in Western Europe and the central US states specifically to the arrival of El Niño. Central America and the Caribbean face drought, and a similar forecast has been given for Indonesia and Southeast Asia — and this despite the monsoon season. In East Africa, on the contrary, above-normal precipitation is expected.

"From July to September, rapid development of strong El Niño manifestations is expected, and the forecast is considered highly reliable," the UN stated. Forecasting models, in particular, recorded "sustained and significant warming of ocean temperatures" — the surface temperature could jump by more than 2 degrees Celsius.

The European monitoring service Copernicus Marine reported alarming news a week ago: the average surface temperature of the world's ocean in June rose to the highest values in the entire history of observations, approaching the +21 degrees Celsius mark.
