British dietitian revealed the secrets of nutrition in summer heat: what to eat and what to avoid
According to expert Kelly Chrysir, who shared her observations with Wellness Pulse, during hot days the body vitally needs foods with increased moisture content. Juicy fruits, fresh vegetables, berries, and greens will be real saviors from the heat. The dietitian especially recommends cooling smoothies based on coconut water with the addition of frozen fruits and protein components - for example, Greek yogurt or protein powder.
At the same time, the specialist warns about the danger of foods high in sodium. Meat snacks, pretzels, crackers, and chips can significantly complicate the body's hydration process, which poses a serious threat in summer heat conditions.
Dr. Chrysir paid special attention to the choice of beverages. She strongly advises reducing the consumption of alcohol and caffeinated drinks due to their pronounced diuretic effect.
"For every cup of coffee or cocktail consumed, there should be an equivalent amount of water. The goal is to prevent dehydration, not try to replenish it," the specialist emphasized.
An equally important factor is controlling sugar consumption. Confectionery and sweet carbonated drinks contribute to accelerated fluid loss and can cause deterioration in well-being due to sharp fluctuations in blood sugar levels. The dietitian also noted that sugar is often hidden in sports drinks, which are positioned as means for restoring water balance.
