Science on the verge of breakthrough: life expectancy growth is slowing, but scientists see new horizons

"Modern medicine simply doesn't address aging as the cause of our life limits. But by influencing the mechanisms of aging, we can not only slow down but also reverse this process," said Alexey Moskalev, Director of the Institute of Biology of Aging and Medicine of Healthy Longevity, in an interview with Life.ru.

According to the authoritative scientist, the past century has brought impressive results - human life expectancy has almost doubled thanks to revolutionary changes in nutrition, water quality, and the emergence of antibiotics. However, a concerning trend is now observed: traditional medicine has reached its ceiling, allowing people to live only up to 80-85 years, but not solving the fundamental task of extending youth.

"But to more radically increase the healthy period of life, we need to influence the causes of our aging and start doing this as early as possible. Because many aging processes begin in childhood. There are the so-called first thousand days of a newborn's development, and that's when the foundations that determine future chronic diseases are formed," emphasized Moskalev.

In an exciting perspective, the scientist described technologies of the future that will allow each person to become a "hereditary long-liver": an individual's genome can be compared with the genome of an ideal long-liver, and the identified genetic breakdowns can be fixed using advanced gene therapy.
