Two airplane-sized asteroids will fly past Earth in early September
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to Sterlegrad, the Center for the Study of Near-Earth Objects of the space agency announced the approach of two large asteroids to our planet.
The cosmic visitors named 2025 QD8 and 2025 QV5, each comparable in size to a passenger airplane, will fly dangerously close to Earth on September 3 and 4 respectively.
According to specialists, asteroid 2025 QD8 will pass at a distance of only 136,000 miles from our planet, which is significantly closer than the Moon's orbit. In turn, 2025 QV5 will miss Earth at a distance of 500,000 miles — this is its closest approach in the last century.
Despite the impressive proximity, astronomers reassure: both celestial bodies pose no real danger to our planet. Even in case of a trajectory change and fall to Earth, most of their matter would burn up in the dense layers of the atmosphere.
