Thailand deports Russian blogger for filming border conflict with Cambodia
Thailand's Immigration Police will send Russian blogger Timur Zbarsky, detained in the resort city of Pattaya, back to his homeland on Friday, August 15. This is reported by RIA Novosti.
The Russian came to the attention of authorities after filming military operations in the border conflict zone between Thailand and Cambodia. As a result of the incident, Thai authorities canceled his long-term visa, citing a potential threat to the country's national security.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, Zbarsky was not charged with any criminal or administrative offenses. After detention, the blogger was taken to the Immigration Police Detention Center in Bangkok, from where he will be transferred to Suvarnabhumi International Airport for subsequent deportation to Russia.
According to the agency, the Russian, who has lived in the Kingdom for more than a decade and is a co-owner of a small tourism business, may end up on a "blacklist" with a five-year ban on entering Thailand.
