Yahoo is ready to acquire Chrome if Google has to give up the browser

As reported by TUT.AZ, American technology company Yahoo has expressed readiness to buy the Chrome browser in case the court, as part of antitrust proceedings, obliges Google to give up its popular product.

"Chrome is possibly the most important strategic player on the internet," said Yahoo Search General Manager Brian Provost, whose words are quoted by Bloomberg agency. According to Provost's assessment, the browser's value could reach tens of billions of dollars. He also noted that although Yahoo is developing its own browser, the company does not rule out the possibility of acquiring an already existing solution.

Interest in purchasing Chrome was previously shown by OpenAI, the creator of the popular ChatGPT chatbot. In case of a successful acquisition, OpenAI plans to more closely integrate its artificial intelligence technologies into the browser's functionality.

Recall that the US Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Google, demanding that the tech giant give up ownership of the Chrome browser and stop making contracts with other companies to use its search engine. American authorities are seeking to limit Google's monopoly position, which, in their opinion, prevents competitors from competing for a "significant share of internet search".
