According to the Axios internet portal, the Israeli Air Force carried out an airstrike on Iranian territory. At the moment, the targets of the attack remain unknown.
Meanwhile, the Iranian agency Fars reports that residents of Tehran heard at least six powerful explosions in the country's capital.
In response to the developing situation, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared a state of emergency in the country: "Following Israel's preemptive strike on Iran, missile and drone attacks on the country's civilian population are expected in the near future," he said.
According to the warning distributed among the population, Israeli authorities have canceled all educational events, suspended the operation of enterprises, except for critically important industrial facilities, and banned mass gatherings of citizens.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported about the possibility of Israel launching a military strike on Iran this Sunday if Tehran does not reach an agreement with Washington on the nuclear issue.
