Fugitive in striped "uniform": week-long saga of capturing an escaped zebra ends in Tennessee
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to CNN, the striped fugitive named Ed, who became a real internet sensation, was found in a pasture near the Christian community in central Tennessee. According to the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, the animal was caught safe and sound. Even aviation forces were involved in the detention of the four-legged disturber of peace. "Ed was airlifted by helicopter back to the animal trailer waiting for him," the official statement says.
The video published by the sheriff's office captures a truly unusual scene: Ed, wrapped in a net with his head peeking out, being transported by helicopter to the trailer.
The adventures of the striped fugitive began on May 30, when he arrived in Christiana. The very next day, the owner raised the alarm, reporting the pet missing. The freedom-loving zebra was spotted galloping along the interstate highway, forcing police to urgently block traffic. However, the cunning Ed managed to slip through the cordon and disappear into the wooded area.
During his unplanned "vacation," the zebra turned into a real social media star. Local residents regularly posted messages about encounters with the striped fugitive in various corners of the district. In one video, Ed was captured trotting around the neighborhood. Internet users enthusiastically turned the zebra into a hero of numerous memes: in one fake post, Ed was supposedly enjoying waffles at a local establishment, in another - begging on the roadside, charming passersby.
Notably, the incident with Ed occurred just a month after a kangaroo blocked a section of the interstate highway in Alabama, jumping between cars.
