A series of powerful underground tremors shook Kamchatka: five earthquakes in 45 minutes
The Kamchatka region was rocked by a series of underground tremors — five earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 4.8 to 5.3 occurred within just 45 minutes, as reported by the Telegram channel of the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The first tremor with a magnitude of 5.3 was recorded 140 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 47 km. It was soon followed by a second earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2, which occurred 177 km southeast of the city at a depth of 40 km. The third underground shock with a magnitude of 5.1 was registered 167 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky with its epicenter at a depth of 16.6 km. The seismic activity concluded with two more tremors of magnitude 4.8, which occurred at distances of 173 and 198 km from the city, with epicenters at depths of 32.7 and 43.6 km respectively.
According to available information, no casualties or destruction were reported as a result of the earthquakes, and no tsunami threat was declared.
