Refusing help during a psychological crisis is often related not to stubbornness, but to the peculiarities of perceiving one's own condition. A person may not realize the severity of the problem, especially if anxiety, insomnia, or depression have been building gradually.
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to "Gazeta.Ru," psychiatrist-narcologist Maria Kasperovich explains that the reason for refusal is often fear of visiting a specialist, a sense of shame, and fear of judgment. In cases of addiction, a person is often sincerely convinced that they have the situation under complete control.
The doctor emphasizes that pressure from loved ones, as a rule, only increases resistance. Instead of reproaches and accusations, the specialist advises drawing attention to specific changes — for example, pointing out sleep problems or a noticeable deterioration in well-being.
It is worth seeking professional help in cases when anxiety, insomnia, depression, or alcohol consumption begin to affect work, daily life, and relationships with others.
