Polish man sues IVF clinic over "forced fatherhood" without his consent

This is reported by the newspaper "Rzeczpospolita".

According to the published information, the couple initially planned to use the services of an in vitro fertilization clinic, but their relationship soon ended. After the breakup, the woman decided to use her former partner's genetic material without his knowledge. To carry out the procedure, she allegedly forged his signature.

The man, who had no intention of becoming a father, later learned about his ex-partner's pregnancy. Realizing that after the child's birth he would face alimony payments, he decided to demand compensation from the clinic that performed the IVF procedure. The plaintiff intends to recover amounts equivalent to potential financial obligations to his former lover.

Attorney Monika Vishnevskaya notes that the number of such incidents is growing worldwide. A special term has even emerged for this phenomenon - "forced fatherhood." According to the lawyer, Polish courts have not previously dealt with such lawsuits. Nevertheless, there is a possibility of holding the clinic liable based on the Civil Code with subsequent payment of compensation to the injured party who did not consent to the procedure.
