Items that are dangerous to leave in a car in hot weather

In hot weather, a car's interior can heat up to extreme temperatures, especially if the vehicle is parked in the sun. This creates a dangerous environment for certain items that can get damaged, spoiled, or even pose a safety hazard. Here's what you shouldn't leave in your car during hot weather.

Plastic water bottles. When severely heated, plastic can release harmful substances into the water, especially if the bottle is reusable and has already been used. Additionally, a bottle lying under direct sunlight can focus light like a lens and cause a fire.

Electronics. Phones, tablets, laptops, and power banks overheat in hot weather. This can damage the battery, cause malfunctions, or reduce the device's lifespan. In some cases, the battery may swell or even catch fire.

Medications. Many medical preparations lose their properties at high temperatures. Insulin, antibiotics, eye drops, and even some vitamins become ineffective or unsafe if stored in a hot car.

Cosmetics and perfumes. Creams, mascara, lipsticks, perfumes, and other cosmetic products can melt, separate, or change composition. Perfume loses its fragrance when heated, and some pressurized bottles may burst.

Aerosols and pressurized canisters. Air fresheners, hairspray, deodorants, and other sprays are potentially explosive items in hot weather. When overheated, they can deform or even explode.

Food. Food spoils quickly at high temperatures. Even if something looks normal, bacteria can develop in the heat, and consuming such products can lead to poisoning.

Bank cards and documents. Plastic cards can deform, and thermal paper on receipts and other documents can fade or completely disappear. This also applies to driver's licenses and other plastic IDs.

Synthetic clothing or leather. Some materials begin to emit odors, melt, deform, or leave marks on seats when exposed to heat.

To avoid risk, on hot days it's better to take all important items with you when possible, especially if you're leaving your car for a long time. The safety and preservation of your belongings depend not only on locks but also on the temperature outside.
