Doctors raise the alarm: hot showers in winter can seriously harm the skin, warns British therapist Donald Grant.
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to the Daily Mirror, the combination of cold air outside and dry atmosphere in heated rooms creates perfect conditions for skin dehydration. The specialist emphasizes that during the cold and dry period, skin problems such as eczema and acne often worsen.
The expert reveals an unpleasant truth: hot water, despite its excellent cleansing properties, can destroy the protective hydrolipid barrier of the skin. This natural barrier performs vital functions, retaining moisture and providing protection against bacteria and external aggressive factors.
"To reduce the negative impact, it's worth avoiding cleansing products with aggressive chemical components and not overusing harsh loofahs and scrubs. It's better to use warm or slightly warm water - both when washing your face and hands," Grant noted.
Additionally, the therapist reminded about the importance of maintaining water balance in cold weather. For those who don't like the taste of regular water, he recommended drinking herbal teas.
