Australian radio station found itself at the center of a scandal: for six months, listeners were deceived by artificial intelligence
This is reported by the publication Independent.
Radio station CADA, broadcasting in Sydney and through the iHeartRadio app, secretly launched a virtual host named Ti, created using artificial intelligence. The digital DJ hosted a daily four-hour program "Weekdays" from Monday to Friday, while listeners had no idea they were communicating with a neural network. Neither on the official website nor in promotional materials did the station reveal the true nature of its "employee".
"If your day seems a bit boring, let Ti and CADA give you the energy and atmosphere that will lift your mood," read the program description, accompanied by a photo of the non-existent host.
The deception was uncovered by Sydney writer Stephanie Coombs, who suspected something was wrong. Her attention was drawn to Ti's lack of a surname and biography, as well as mechanical repetitions — some words in different episodes sounded with absolutely identical intonation.
Fayad Tome, CEO of the media holding ARN, which owns the CADA radio station, confirmed the use of artificial intelligence to create Ti's voice.
"No microphone, no studio - just code and atmosphere," he wrote on social media.
