Two noticeable earthquakes shook the Turkish province of Amasya
TUT.AZ, citing the official website of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), reports that two underground tremors occurred in the Gümüşhacıköy district with an interval of three minutes - the first at 12:23 local time with a magnitude of 4.4 and the second at 12:26 with a magnitude of 4.2.
The earthquakes were recorded at depths of 10.07 and 19 kilometers respectively.
Due to the tremors, alarmed residents of the region panicked and left buildings, waiting outside for some time. The underground vibrations were also felt in neighboring provinces and districts.
The Governor of Amasya, Önder Bakan, made an official statement: "Thank God, we have not received information about any negative consequences. Inspections on the ground have begun immediately. AFAD and our other structures continue their investigations in the region."
Note that classes in schools in the Gümüşhacıköy and Hamamözü districts have been suspended today.
